Crail Community Hall

One of the Priority Action Items in the Crail Local Place Plan was to:

Create a multi-purpose community facility in Community Hall

Crail Community Hall is one of the assets of the Crail Community Partnership and was transferred

from Fife Council into Community ownership in February 2021. Since then, it has been developed

into an active, viable and sustainable community hub.

The transfer was enabled through an initial application to the Scottish Land Fund (SLF) which

supports charities working on community asset transfer & ownership. In late December 2019

the SLF approved CCPs Stage One application and provided £8,424, which was the first step in an

ongoing development journey.

A lot has happened since then.

A new, commercial kitchen as well as a boiler and heating upgrade formed two of the many improvements to the hall, transporting it into the 21st century. Other work included substantial maintenance to the original wooden floors and cosmetic upgrades. All this was possible through generous donations and funding from several sources, including The National Lottery and Co-Op funding.

The most current projects include a fundraising appeal for new curtains and there are other projects in the planning such as new toilets, lighting improvements and energy saving measures.

Under CCPs ownership the hall has gone from strength to strength, attracting a wide variety of audiences for community activities, public events, commercial use, and private hire. It has become a highly valued asset for the Crail Community and, thanks to ever growing numbers of commercial and private hires, it’s on its way to self-sufficiency.

The Business Plan for CCH is to host at least 12 weddings a year to provide commercial income that allows us to subsidise community use. This means we need to continuously improve the property so that it provides the amenities for modern weddings.
